As of May 1, 2012, local door and access system technician, Timothy Pershing, with Overhead Door Company of Harrisburg-York™, Lewisberry, Pennsylvania has been designated as Certified Rolling Steel Fire Door Technicians by the Institute of Door Dealer Education and Accreditation (IDEA).
This IDEA certification is available to individuals who have documented training and demonstrated a high degree of knowledge and expertise in the installation and service of rolling steel fire door systems. Not only do candidates have to prove field experience in the drop testing of products, candidates must also pass a comprehensive written examination covering all aspects of fire doors, fusible links, drop testing and fire-related standards that apply to these systems.
IDEA is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that was created in 1995 to serve the general public by promoting safety standards and high professional standards in the door and access systems business. IDEA Accreditation is endorsed by the Door and Access Systems Manufacturers Association (DASMA) and the International Door Association (IDA).
The Certified Rolling Steel Fire Door Technicians program was created in 2003 to promote product quality, safety and facility security among door and access systems technicians.
